QM2 Visits Melbourne
Cunard’s magnificent 151,400-tonne Queen Mary 2 claimed the mantle of the largest ship ever to visit Victoria when she arrived in Melbourne this morning.
The elegant liner berthed at Port Melbourne’s Station Pier to spend the day in Melbourne as part of her historic maiden Royal Circumnavigation of Australia, which draws to a close this week. Stretching 345 metres – more than twice the length of Melbourne’s Cricket Ground – and rising 62 metres above the water, Queen Mary 2 is carrying around 2500 guests and 1200 crew.
Her maiden visit to Melbourne is expected to inject more than $500,000 into the local economy, with guests enjoying a day of sightseeing in the city and its surrounds.
